Abstract
1362043 Chlorosulphonic acid BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 1 Dec 1971 [2 Dec 1970] 55721/71 Heading C1A Hydrogen chloride is sprayed with gaseous sulphur trioxide into a reaction zone to form chlorosulphonic acid. Preferably a two-fluid nozzle is used for the spraying, the SO3 being passed through the outer of the two concentric tubes. The product may be liquefied by cooling. As shown (Fig. 2) a two-fluid nozzle 11 is located at the upper end of a cylindrical reactor 12. The liquid chlorosulphonic acid is withdrawn through a siphon tube 15. A branch pipe 13 located at the upper end of reactor 12 leads to two condensers 14 which condense any chlorosulphonic acid vapours formed, the condensed acid being led by pipe 17 into the pool at the bottom of reactor 12. Any inert gas introduced with the reactants into the reactor is led away through tube 18.
