Abstract

1360504 Labelling machine CEIKO CEIKI CO Ltd 3 Aug 1971 [14 Aug 1970 6 Nov 1970 29 Dec 1970] 36462/71 Heading B8F [Also in Division B6] A labelling machine in which labels on a carrier tape are fed from a spool 58, being printed by means 42 when in position 44 prior to dis charge through opening 49; inking rolls 34 being moved across the means 42 as this means moves toward the label. The carrier tape is passed back over member 60 and received on spool 25. An electric motor is mounted in hand grip 1 and movement of lever 2 allows one revolution of disc 11, one half revolution when the lever is pulled in, and one half revolution when it is released, causing lever 19 which is rotatably mounted on it at 20 to move first to the left, then to return to its original position. Printing means 42 are carried on a means 45, which is fixed to lever 19, and they contact the label 44 when lever 19 moves to the left. In this movement a projection on means 45 engages arm 36 carrying ink rolls 34, swinging them in the direction into the drawing over the printing surfaces. Lever 19 engages projection 30 on a lever 27 and rotates lever 27 on moving to the left; when 19 returns a ratchet clutch engages lever 27 with the spool 25 to feed the carrier tape and advance the printed label to space 49. As member 45 is pulled back by lever 19, a label pushing-out and applying member 46, sliding on the top edge of the casing 26, is pulled to the right against the tension of spring 51 by the engagement of rod 55 with a step 54. Just before member 45 is fully withdrawn rod 55 is released from step 54 by projection 57 and member 46 is forced suddenly to the left by spring 51 to eject the label from window 49. More than one row of printing surfaces 42 can be used, each served by a different colour ink roll 34 if necessary. In other embodiments of the invention a member may be provided adjacent the opening 49 to allow the discharge of a label only when it is pressed against an article, or mechanical means may replace the electric motor.
