Abstract

1388996 Label applicators DYMO INDUSTRIES Inc 8 Oct 1973 [18 Oct 1972] 46940/73 Heading B8F [Also in Division B6] A hand-held label marking device comprises an actuator handle 74 which when moved from rest to actuated position causes a platen roller 60 to traverse a printing station 50 whereby to press a label strip 30 and an ink ribbon 40 against print wheels 52,54. The platen roller is mounted on a frame 100 pivotable about an axis A by engagement of a link 130 or (132, Fig. 6, not shown) with a pin 120 (or 122) on a carriage 96 directly displaced by the actuator handle 74. The platen roller 60 is displaced in alternate directions on successive actuations of the actuator handle. Return of the handle 74 to rest position under bias of a spring 78 feeds the label strip 30 by rotating a take-up roll 70 for the backing strip. The roll 70 is rotated by a pawl-and-ratchet mechanism 162 actuated by return of the carriage 96. Return of the handle 74 also feeds the ink ribbon through a push rod 170 on the carriage 90 acting through a one-way clutch (178, Fig. 2, not shown) on a take-up roll 72. The labels are separated from the backing strip by a separating member 62 and applied by an applicator 66.
