Abstract
1360277 Protective clothing DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 19 Oct 1972 [19 July 1971] 33775/71 Heading A3V Protective clothing for protection against atmospheric contaminants comprises a bag or envelope of air permeable material bearing a layer of active carbon, the envelope having fastening means for securement of the clothing about a wearer, and the envelope in use being loosely fitting to allow free air flow and an adequate supply of air to be drawn in through the envelope for breathing. The fastening means is preferably in the form of strips of complementary filamentary hook and loop pile material and the envelope may be of such use, as to cover the whole body, the body to the waist, or only the head of a wearer. In a particular example the air permeable material consisted of a non-woven fabric formed from nylon 66 and viscose fibres bonded with neoprene and reinforced with woven cotton scrim and coated on one side with a bonded layer of particulate active charcoal and with a liquid repellent on the other side. An area of transparent material e.g. polyvinyl chloride is preferably provided in a position corresponding in use to a wearer's face.
