Abstract
1,206,581. Protective garments. DEFENCE, SECRETARY OF STATE FOR. 28 Sept., 1967 [29 June, 1966], No. 29101/66. Heading A3V. [Also in Division B5] Working suits/overalls or gloves are made from a laminated material comprising a woven, non-woven or composite cloth, which has been treated to render it liquid repellent and thus prevent the passage therethrough of offensive liquid chemicals, the inner surface of the cloth having an absorbent charcoal coating to protect the wearer from offensive vapourous chemicals, and a layer of liquidabsorbent material attached to the outer surface of the cloth, so that when pressure is applied to the garment, any liquid present will be absorbed by this layer rather than forced through the cloth. The laminated material is air-permeable. The cloth may be rendered liquid-repellent by immersing it in a liquid fluorcarbon compound. The liquid-absorbent material may be a textile fabric of nylon, cotton or nylon/wool mixture and may be secured to the cloth by welding or adhesive at a number of discrete points or by stitches made with a thread rendered liquid repellent.
