1356608 Liquid fuel burner apparatus; igniters MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 1 Nov 1971 [13 Nov 1970 (2)] 50762/71 Headings F4T and F4F In a liquid fuel burner apparatus 10, liquid fuel is supplied (via pipe 48) to a vaporizing chamber 45 defined by walls 37 and 38 having air supply apertures 41 and 42 and containing a heat-resistant porous element 46 at which part of the fuel burns to vaporize the remainder, so that vaporized fuel passes through a throat 43 between baffle plates 35a and 36a into a mixing chamber 55 which has a greater volume than the vaporizing chamber 45 and has apertures 33 supplying air to mix with the vaporized fuel, forming a gaseous mixture which passes through a second throat 29 to a combustion zone partially defined by a pair of opposite walls 21 and 22 having air supply apertures 23 and 24 and a cylindrical member 57 disposed therebetween to assist combustion by creating turbulence, the total air supply being sufficient for complete combustion of the fuel. The vaporizing chamber 45 is divided into sub-chambers 45a and 45b by the porous element 46 which has a cutout 46c providing communication between the subchambers. An ignition heater 47 is disposed adjacent the cutout 46c so that its electric filament 47a can ignite fuel on its ignition wick 47b which in turn ignites fuel on the surface of the porous element 46. The member 57, between the upwardly-diverging walls 21 and 22 of the combustion zone, may be circular in cross-section, as shown, or polygonal, e.g. diamond-shaped in cross-section, Fig. 2 (not shown).
