Abstract
1355567 Pipe couplings INDUSTRIELE ONDERNEMING WAVIN NV 13 Sept 1971 [17 Sept 1970] 42479/71 Heading F2G Coaxial pipes 3 are connected and sealed in end-to-end relation by a coupling comprising a two-part coupling member 7 which is lockable around the pipe ends to enclose a sealing member 1 and at least one 0-ring 6 on the pipe surface. In one embodiment, as shown in Fig. 1, a chamfered bridge portion 11 of a thickened end section of the pipe 3 abuts a chamfered end 10 of a radial flange 9 on the coupling member 1, the two parts 7 of which are coupled by bolts through holes 8<SP>1</SP> in flanges 8. The O-rings 6 are located in grooves 5 in the thickened pipe portion. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, only one O-ring 12 is provided and the thickened end of the pipe is formed by material 13 glued or wrapped about the pipe. The sealing member 1 which engages the 0-rings may have an inner radial flange (27) (Fig. 5, not shown) interposed between the end faces of the aligned pipes to limit axial movement of the sealing member on the pipes. In other arrangements, the pipes are of uniform wall thickness and have beads (14) (Fig. 3, not shown) or grooves (18) (Fig. 4, not shown) which are engaged by the parts of the sealing member 1. The 0-rings may be located in a groove (21) in the pipe or in a groove on the internal surface of the sealing member (17).
