Abstract

1351591 Loading and unloading ships J H MOHR K A GIAEVER-ENGER E STORHAUG E ODLAND and J H MOHR JNR 19 April 1971 [6 Feb 1970] 21219/71 Headings B7S and B7M A ship 10 is stabilized during loading and unloading of heavy containers 12 by the derricks 14-18, by arm 23, 25 which bears on the dockside 11. The free end of the arm bears on a hydraulic ram 29, 30 the cylinder of which is connected to a pressure gauge (29d, Fig. 3) which indicates the load applied to the arm so that, when necessary, the pressure applied to the ram can be increased and/or water ballast can be transferred to and from tanks 10a-10d. The Specification refers to several examples and quotes optimum quantities for ballasting the ship under different loading and unloading conditions.
