1351563 Electro-mechanical transmission systems MOSKOVSKY INSTITUT INZHENEROV ZHELEZNODOROZHNOGO TRANSPORTA and TALLINSKY ELEKTROTEKH NICHESKY ZAVOD IMENI M I KALININA 29 March 1972 14598/72 Heading H2H [Also in Division G1] Apparatus used in the testing of the generating unit 1 of diesel-electric rolling stock comprises at least two controlled rectifier bridge rectifier circuits 9, 10 each of which is capable of being operated as an inverter or as a rectifier or as a straight through connection, the bridge circuits 9, 10 being connected in series across the output of a rectifier 8 in the generating unit 1 and also, by way of transformers 27, 28 and switches 33, 34 to an A.C. mains network. Thus a variable loading can be imposed on the generating unit by selectively firing the thyristors 11-22 of the bridges 9, 10 whereby the bridges act as inverters or rectifiers simultaneously, or as a rectifier and inverter simultaneously or vice versa, or one or the other being operated to form a straight through connection. The transformers 27, 28 are arranged to have specified transformation ratios. In other embodiments an inductor is placed in the negative lead from the rectifier 8 to the bridge circuit 10 and the primary windings of the two transformers may be arranged on a common core with a common secondary winding. Furthermore the star points of the primary windings may be connected to the negative terminals respectively of the bridge circuits 9, 10 by thyristors whereby the range of loading imposed on the generating unit is increased.
