Abstract

1347629 Making battery grids ESB Inc 18 April 1972 [21 April 1971] 17884/72 Heading B3A [Also in Divisions C7 and H1] Grids for lead-acid storage batteries are formed by casting ingot slabs or continuous strips of lead alloy containing 0À2 to 2% by weight of zinc and 0À2 to 2% by weight of tin, cold-rolling into sheets or thinner continuous strips and then performing a grid-forming operation which may involve slitting and expanding, or punching out, followed by an optional forging step for interlocked grids. In an alternative embodiment, the alloy is cast directly into grid form and then cold-rolled to the required final thickness.
