Abstract

1342791 Drafting apparatus SCHUBERT & SALZER MASCHINENFABRIK AG 29 April 1971 [23 May 1970] 12062/71 Headings DID and D1N An apparatus for drafting long staple fibres comprises two sets of rollers with projections which intermesh through the fibres but do not mutually contact. The amount of intermesh is adjustable to suit fibres of differing staple and crimp. A lower set of rollers 20, 22, 24 is mounted on a slide 3 and an upper set 21, 23, 25 is mounted on a frame 2 pivoted to slide 3 at an axle 26 and angularly adjustable by a screw 32. Further adjustability is provided by a screw 33 cooperating with a slot 330 allowing alteration of the intermesh e and d of the rollers 24, 25 and 20, 21 respectively. Fibres are fed to the drafting zone by supply rollers 10, 11 loaded by a device 110. Drafting is accomplished by rollers 12, 13, 14 non adjustably mounted on the machine frame 1 and from which the distance of the slide 3 is set by a lead screw 30. All the rollers are driven by toothed belts and in the event of excessive tension occuring jockey rollers 521, 538 or 541 deflect to stop the apparatus through micro switches El, E2 or E3.
