Abstract
1337391 Glazing building materials UNITED STATES BORAX & CHEMICAL CORP 19 Jan 1971 [13 Feb 1970 7 May 1970 11 Nov 1970] 7032/70 22033/70 and 53579/70 Heading C1M In a method of glazing ceramic building materials such as bricks, tiles and concrete by heating in a flame, a flux is coated on the surface of the material prior to the application of the flame. The flame is preferably an oxygen-coal gas or oxy-acetylene flame and the surface is heated to a temperature of the order of 1500‹ C. Examples of suitable fluxes include boric acid, alkali and alkaline earth metal borates, glycol borate and a condensation product thereof, silica, cornish stone, nepheline syenite, feldspar, pegmatite, organic and inorganic silicon compounds and alkali and alkaline earth metal phosphates. A metal oxide colouring agent may be mixed with the flux. The fluxing material is applied to the surface in the form of a solution, suspension or paste made with water or kerosene which may also contain an adhesive, for example water-glass.
