Abstract

1327970 Safety helmet visors STADIUM Ltd 10 Feb 1972 [15 Feb 1971] 4643/71 Heading A3V A visor for a safety helmet 4 comprises a curved transparent face shield 1 having an arcuate slot 2 extending therethrough adjacent each side thereof, a metal head band 3 which may be detachably mounted on the helmet 1 by press studs 5, and a disc-like cap member 6 at each side of the face shield 1, each member 6 having a rib 8 thereon (Figure 4) which extends through the associated slot and is enlarged at each end to form studs 9 which guide the rib in the slot, the rib being secured as by screws 9 to the adjacent end of the head band 3 so that the face shield can be moved arcuately on the helmet between lowered and raised positions. Unwanted play between the face shield 1 and helmet 4 is taken up by a leaf spring 12 abutting the rib 8, and the spring has a convex central portion 13 for engagement with locating grooves 14 in the appropriate edges of the slots 2. The face shield is preferably of polycarbonate material and may be provided with an integral tinted sun visor 15.
