Abstract
1327503 Modulating light ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 5 Feb 1971 4028/71 Heading H4F [Also in Divisions G1 and G2] A fluid-filled lens has a wall 5 formed by a transparent membrane, and piezoelectric means provided to vary the pressure of the fluid, and hence the focal length of the lens in response to changes in the voltage applied to the piezoelectric material. As shown, the piezo-electric material may be in the form of a cylinder 6 disposed coaxially with the optical path, and may carry transparent element 7, e.g. a glass plate, adjacent the membrane. The piezoelectric material may have electrodes attached to its inner and outer surfaces. The pressure of fluid, and hence the focal length, may also be adjusted by piston 10 and screw 9. The fluid preferably has the same refractive index as the glass 7, and may be a silicone oil. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,260,394.
