Abstract

1325437 Doors for rotary drum apparatus TURNER MACHINERY Ltd 16 Sept 1970 [16 Sept 1969] 45561/69 Heading C6C [Also in Division F2] A door or cover 7 for the charging and discharging aperture 6 in the cylindrical wall of a tumbling drum 1 for the wet processing of hides etc is removable and replaceable by support means which also operates means by which the door is locked in position over the aperture. The locking means comprises two pairs of bolts 8 slidably mounted on the door for engagement with clasps 10 on the drum and operated by a toggle mechanism 11. The support means comprises a stabilizing arm 21 and two flanking arms 15 all of which are movable together about pivots at their lower ends by piston and cylinder units (not shown). The arm 21 has pins 24 to enter sockets 78 on the door and the arms 15 have surfaces 18 and hooked levers 16 operated by piston and cylinder units 17 for engagement with toggle-operating pins 13 projecting from collars 86 slidable on pegs 84. The operation of the door may constitute part of a programmed sequence including control of rotation of the drum for loading and unloading and admission of treating fluids etc. A modification is referred to in which the toggle mechanism is operated by a separate piston and cylinder unit mounted on the door 7 and controlled by microswitches actuated by the levers 16.
