Abstract

1353100 Tumble drier H F ARENDT 19 July 1971 [18 July 1970] 33733/71 Heading F4G A tumble drier comprises a perforated drum 1 rotated about a horizontal axis within a housing 8, longitudinal ribs 102 of generally triangular cross-section, and plates 20 inclined as shown in Fig. 4 to one face 19 of each rib which act, when articles are tumbled by face 19, to axially move the articles for discharge; the opposite face 18 being inclined at an angle (α 1 ) to the drum radius through the apex of the rib which is at least 20 degrees. In the embodiment shown the driving motor 10 is reversible and face 18 of each rib leads when articles are being tumbled; the face 19 being inclined at a greater angle (α 2 ) to the drum radius through the rib apex than face 18. For discharge the direction of rotation is reversed and face 19 leads, allowing the articles to be moved by the plates 20. In a modification (Fig. 5) only one direction of rotation is used and the plates are retractably mounted in the leading face.
