Abstract

1324119 Delivering sheets XEROX CORP 27 Oct 1970 [31 Oct 1969] 51014/70 Heading B8R A document sorting apparatus comprises a plurality of document receiving trays 24, an input conveyer 18, further conveyers 60 for transporting the documents to the trays, deflectors 80 for deflecting documents into a selected tray and a faulty feed detector arranged, upon failure of a document to arrive at a point on the feed path at a prescribed time, to cause shutdown of the transport to the trays and to cause the document input to be supplied to an overflow tray 24<SP>11</SP>. A switch 52 along conveyer 18 normally directs documents to conveyers 60 but may be set, on detection of a fault in the feed, to direct documents to tray 241<SP>1</SP>. To select a set of trays e.g. 12 or 14, to which a document is to be delivered, a switch 73 is operable to deflect incoming documents upwards. between belts 54 and pinch rollers 57 to the deflectors 80 of tray set 12 or on to conveyer 22 and thus into conveyer system 60 of set 14.
