Abstract

1,247,841. Endless and roller conveyers. CRISPLANT A/S. 23 Sept., 1968 [25 Aug., 1967], No. 39175/67. Heading B8A. Parcels 36 and the like are temporarily stopped by a raisable stop 24 at one of a pair of receiving stations 4, 6, comprised of a plurality of rollers 10 driven by an endless belt 14, whereat the parcel's destination is read by an operator who feeds a corresponding code into a control box 40 connected to a memory device (56), Fig. 2 (not shown). The operator then presses a release button 46 on the control box 40 which initiates the lowering of the stop 24 provided that a parcel is not at that instant leaving the other receiving station and provided that a set time delay has elapsed since the release of the last parcel, irrespective of the station, thereby ensuring an even spacing of the parcels downstream of the station. On release of the parcel by the stop 24 the parcel interrupts a plate-electric cell 32, 34 which prevents the said lowering of the stop in the other receiving station and initiates the raising of the respective stop 24 on passage of the trailing edge of the parcel and in conjunction with a pulser (70) measures the length of the parcel. The pair of receiving stations feed a common conveyer 16 constituted by further rollers 18 driven by an endless belt 20 at a greater velocity than the rollers 10 and having an anti-slip coating whereby to assist in the rapid removal of the articles from the area of the stop. The conveyer 16 has a converging path the edges of which are defined by a pair of endless belts 38 driven at a velocity such that their component of velocity in the direction of conveyance is equal to that of the rollers 20. The parcels are subsequently fed to a further roller conveyer 22 for conveyance to their desired destination whereat the respective code in the memory actuates a discharge device, which may comprise a dead or live arm or means for tilting the rollers. The number of rollers that are tilted depending on the length of the article as measured by the photo-electric cell 32, 34. Sequential operation of the above is through a control circuit (Fig. 2 and 3, not shown), whereby the receiving stations may alternately feed the conveyer 16 or one receiving station may have preference over the other. The roller conveyers may be replaced by endless conveyers.
