Abstract

1321108 Photo-polymerizable materials ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KK 22 June 1970 [25 June 1969 19 Feb 1970] 30199/70 Heading G2C A photo-polymerizable material comprises (i) a substantially transparent support 0À05-3 mm thick, (ii) an anchor layer 0À0001-0À3 mm thick but thinner than the support and containing a non- photo-polymerizable polymeric binder and an organic photo-initiator in a ratio by weight of 1 to 0À001-0À1 and (iii) a layer of photopolymerizable material 0À1-10 mm thick. A printing plate may be produced by uniformly exposing through the support for a time between 0À1T and T where T is the time beyond which polymerization of layer (iii) occurs, imagewise exposing layer (iii) directly to polymerize the exposed areas and removing the unexposed areas. The polymer of the anchor layer may be a polyester, an epoxy, acrylic, urea- or melamineformaldehyde resin, a vinyl polymer or a rubber or be an unsaturated polyester or epoxy resin mixed with a thermal curing agent in which case the layer may be thermally cured after applying the layer (iii) but before exposure. The photopolymerizable materials may be ethylenically unsaturated monomers, unsaturated polyesters and unsaturated polyurethanes, the preferred materials being acrylic monomers mixed with unsaturated polyesters, with polyamides or with unsaturated polyurethanes.
