Abstract

Crank chambers. - Cooling-air is circulated through a crank casing by the ejector action of exhaust gases alone or assisted by the movement of the vehicle or craft to which the engine is applied. Fig. 1 shows an aircraft engine having an exhaust pipe G which discharges into a pipe II connected with the crank casing. A funnel C on the crank casing collects the cooling-air.
