Dec. 6, 1918, [Convention date.] Pistons, cooling. - Relates to pistons for internal-combustion or other engines which are cooled by a fluid such as oil thrown upwards from a pipe or pipes, and consists in using pistons with comparatively short skirts, and in providing an extension k spaced somewhat from the cylinder wall and sufficiently long to protect the cylinder wall from the cooling fluid. In the arrangement shown, there are four pipes f from which oil is thrown by a pump h drawing from the crankcasing. A cooling-device may form part of the insulating system.
