Abstract

1318606 Cable terminations MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 24 Sept 1970 [25 Sept 1969] 45643/70 Heading H2E A high voltage cable terminator comprises an insulative corrugated ceramic tubular body (11), having semi-conductive elastic caps 12, 18 retained on the body by co-operating ridges and grooves 15, 16 and metal bands 14, 19. The cap 18 has a stress cone configuration and the clamp band 19 is earthed at 23 and may be of the form shown in Fig. 4, providing support for the assembly. The termination 26 is crimped using a sleeve 27 to the cable end 25 and inserted through the assembly, rupturing a diaphragm 28, Fig. 3 (not shown), in cap 18 and diaphragm 24 in cap 12, the diaphragm retaining a thixotropic insulative grease filling within the body. The caps 12, 18 are made from conductive polymer and sealingly engage the terminal and cable sheath respectively. The ceramic may be porcelain.
