Abstract

1310762 Coated products OCE-VAN DER GRINTEN NV 13 March 1970 12265/70 Heading B2E [Also in Division G2] A coated material comprises a paper support coated with a water repellent layer, an intermediate layer of a cross-linked hydrophilic binder and a hydrophobic thermoplastic polymer in which layer is dispersed a filler and a further layer of a cross-linked polyvinyl alcohol with a degree of hydrolysis exceeding 98% and a filler. Specified water-repellent layers are urea or melamine/formaldehyde resin optionally mixed with a styrene/butadiene latex and clay. Specified intermediate layers are hydrolysed starch or other starch derivatives, sodium algenate, polyvinyl alcohol or cellulose derivative as binder, clay, silica or barium sulphate as filler and styrene/butadiene latex, a polyacrylate latex polyvinyl ester latex, or an ethyl acrylate / methacrylonitrile / methacrylic acid latex as hydrophobic polymer and all intermediate layers contain a cross-linking agent.
