Abstract

1301185 Explosive compositions IRECO CHEMICALS 21 April 1970 [1 May 1969] 18908/70 Heading C1D An aqueous slurry blasting composition includes at least 10% by weight of calcium nitrate and also contains at least 5% by weight of ethylene or propylene glycol, a thickener, a cross-linking agent, and gas bubbles trapped in the composition formed by chemical reaction of a gassing agent, in order to reduce density and increase sensitivity. Other ingredients of the compositions described are ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, nitric acid, ground pitch or gilsonite, and finely divided aluminium. Guar gum or meal or potato starch is used as the thickener. A solution of potassium or sodium dichromate, together with gallic acid or potassium antimony tartrate, may be used as an oxidizer-reducer cross-linking agent for the gum. The gassing agents may be nitrous acid or ammonium, sodium or potassium nitrite with melamine or thiourea, or H 2 O 2 with KI or MnO 2 .
