Abstract

1298691 Firearms BREVETS AERO-MECANIQUES SA 2 March 1970 [5 March 1969] 9810/70 Heading F3C A firearm, e.g. an automatic or semi-automatic firearm, has a barrel T which is slidable in a breech casing 1 against the action of an elastic return means R. The breech casing 1 comprises a cylindrical collar 3 which is slidably mounted in the bores of a pair of spaced rings 4, 5 of a rigid support 2. A damping means in the form of cylindrical sleeve 6 is interposed between the rings 4, 5, surrounds the collar 3, and, has two elastic end zones 9, 10 and a rigid zone 11 by which it is fixed to the collar 3. In the construction shown the fixing means comprises a yoke 12 which also prevents relative rotation between the collar 3 and the sleeve 6. The sleeve 6 is in the form of a metal cylinder which is provided in its end zones 9, 10 with arcuate slots to effect the elastic property thereof. The end zones 9, 10 are connected to the rings 4, 5 by dovetail projections (Fig. 2, not shown). In modifications the end zones of the sleeve are received in annular grooves in the rings, the end zones surrounding the collar (Figs. 4, 5, not shown). The end zones are compressed by the rigid portion during firing so that the zones clamp about the collar. The inner end of the grooves may be tapered to facilitate the clamping effect (Fig. 5). A viscous frictional substance such as wax may be interposed between the bores of the rings and the collar.
