Abstract
1410798 Metal ring-springs FRANCE ARMED FORCES MINISTER OF 7 Dec 1972 [7 Dec 1971 6 Nov 1972] 56611/72 Heading F2S [Also in Division F3] A mortar has a damping device constituted by an annular spring assembly 11, Fig. 1, having internal rings a, Fig. 8, and external rings b, the rings a, b having conical faces that slide on one another. Deformation-limiting rings e of piano wire, which may be thinner near the middle of the spring, are positioned between the rings b and end rings c are provided. Guide rings g, Fig. 9, are placed at spaced intervals along the spring assembly 11, a projection h of each guide ring g being located between adjacent external rings b. The spring assembly is mounted on a barrel 1 between a recoil piston 12 and a return piston 13 and is received in a cradle 8 fixed to a member which supports the mortar. Instead of using limiting rings e of different thickness, force distribution in the spring assembly may be determined by giving the middle rings a smaller cross-section, e.g. narrower, or the angles of the spring friction surfaces can be modified.
