Abstract

1294668 Jib cranes ALGOSHIP INTERNATIONAL Ltd 2 Dec 1969 [26 Dec 1968 10 April 1969 26 Aug 1969] 58747/69 Heading B8B A cargo handling crane, Figs. 1, 5, comprises a fixed post 9 erected on a ship's deck with a boom supporting gooseneck 30 located in the mid-position of the post 9. A load trolley 2 is arranged to be traversed along boom 1 by a winch 16 and the load hook is hoisted by a winch 15. The boom 1 is topped by a winch 14 and slewed by winch 23 which has a split drum, adjusting weight 27 picking up any slack in the slewing ropes 20, 20<SP>1</SP>. The trolley 2 may be locked in position at the tip of the boom 1 by means not shown. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6 the boom 1 is slewed by a motor 41 incorporating a brake 46 and driving a spindle 40 through gears 45, 42. Fig. 10 shows an embodiment wherein the boom 1 is mounted to slide on a gooseneck guide 60 to a stowage position on the deck indicated by broken lines. In the above constructions the boom 1 comprises an outrigger 18 and strength members 19 (Fig. 5). The strength members 19 may be replaced by tension ropes (80). Fig. 15 (not shown), strained by turnbuckles (26). In a further embodiment, Figs. 17 to 19 (not shown) the trolley 2 is traversed and the load raised and lowered by winches, driven by hydraulic motors, mounted on the boom 1. In a modification, Figs. 20, 21 (not shown) the boom 1 is slewed by vertical, co-operating hydraulic cylinders (90, 90<SP>1</SP>) arranged along the post 9 replacing the winch 23 (Fig. 5).
