Abstract

1294434 Rail vehicle couplings AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc 21 May 1971 [10 Aug 1970] 16385/71 Heading B7T An A.A.R. "F" type coupler is provided with a shank having a pin hole therethrough, said pin hole having a concave bearing surface on which are formed top and bottom straps 52, 54 blending into walls 64, 65, the straps being formed in a compound curve generated by radii R 3 , R 2 , R 1 , R 2 , R 3 in this order, where the centre of R 1 is on the longitudinal centre line of the shank, each R 3 has its centre within the pin hole and its generated arc is tangential to the walls 64, 65, and each R 2 has its centre within the pin hole and its generated arc tangential to the arcs generated by R 1 and R 3 . R 1 may range from three inches to infinity and R 3 be equal to or greater than three quarters of an inch.
