Abstract

1,214,752. Railway car couplers. AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc. 25 June, 1969 [18 July, 1968], No. 32081/69. Heading B7T. In a railway car coupler typified by an A.A.R. type F standard coupler (Fig. 1, not shown) the butt (10) comprising a bearing seat 48 with top and bottom straps 52, 54 is modified in the region of the straps to provide improved stress characteristics and reduce crack formations. The straps 52, 54 are reduced to the broken line positions 52a, 54a with their radius of curvature increased where they merge with the inner surfaces (64) of the side walls (42, 44) of the pinhole.
