C a m - actuated pumps; adjusting time of operation; stroke, varying; indicating action of; single-acting suctionvalveless p i s t o n pumps; pumps in series; delivery pipes; valves, arrangement of; waste liquid, extracting and returning.-A lubricating-pump comprises a reservoir 1 and a pump barrel 2 provided with an inlet passage 13 and a lateral delivery port 14 controlled by a piston valve 21 located in the end of the barrel. The valve chamber has a port 24a to enable leakage oil to return to the reservoir. The effective stroke of the piston may be varied by means of a revoluble sleeve 11 engaging a screwed portion of the piston which passes through a fixed nut 9 in the reciprocating yoke 8. The yoke is reciprocated bv a cam 6 mounted on a shaft 7 driven by pawl-and-ratchet gear &c. When several pumps are driven from the shaft 7 by means of several cams, the shaft may be polygonal, so that the time of operation of each pump may be adjusted. The pump 2 may deliver through the pipe 14, sight chamber 13, and pipe 17 to a second similar pump 4. The delivery passage 19 of the pump 4 may have a branch passage 27 delivering to an alternative port 20a and to the valve chamber 28 to balance the valve.
