1288183 Iron base alloys JOHNSON PRODUCTS Inc 7 Jan 1971 [7 May 1970] 874/71 Heading C7A A hardenable iron alloy has the following composition: - ELEMENT wt. % C 3À00 - 3À60 Si 2À00 - 3À00 Mn 0À70 - 1À25 Ni 0À15 - 0À70 Cr 0À40 - 1À25 Mo 0À15 - 0À70 Ti 0À10 - 1À00 W 0À50 - 10À0 and the balance iron except for impurities, particularly sulphur and phosphorus which may be present in amounts of up to 0À10 and 0À20% by weight respectively. A specific example of such an alloy is described. The alloy is cast to form valve tappets, cam-shafts and valve rocker arms for internal combustion engines, or at least their bearing surfaces.
