Abstract

1285571 Valves C H EDWARDS Ltd 18 Feb 1970 [26 Feb 1969] 10311/69 Heading F2V A valve of the kind having a casing 10 with an inlet 12 closable by a float operated valve 15 is provided with an elbow 20 to conduct liquid laterally at a level above the inlet to an outlet 21 from which liquid is free to fall in the presence of atmospheric air into a silencing tube 22. The outlet has vertical vanes 25 to straighten the flow and the tube 22 has slots 24 of such a width that over 50% of the tube's circumference is open to atmosphere. Back-siphonage, even under a pressure of 28 inches of mercury, is thus prevented.
