Abstract
1281693 Regulating I C engine fuel injection DOWTY TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 31 Oct 1969 [12 Dec 1968] 59047/68 Heading F1B A fuel injection unit comprises two easily separable parts 51 and 53. The part 51 includes an engine-driven shaft 16, a gear fuel pump 2; a metering shuttle 6 and a rotary distributer 18 which controls the supply of fuel under pressure from the chamber 17 alternately to opposite ends of the shuttle and distribution of shuttle displaced fuel to a plurality of outlets 42 in sequence. The part 53 includes a pair of bellows 14 and 15 subjected in chambers 44 and 46 to the intake and exhaust manifold pressures, respectively, and controlling the position of a cam 13 with a follower 43 which engages a shuttle stroke adjusting stop 11 when the unit parts are joined. The distributer 18 has ports, Fig. 4 (not shown), in the face 22 co-operating with ports, Fig. 3 (not shown), in the stationary face 23. The fuel pump 2 is provided with a pressure relief valve (3), Fig. 1 (not shown), and a restrictor (4) in a by-pass around the pump. The shuttle stop 9 may be manually adjusted by a cam 45 to provide excess fuel for starting. The stop 9 may be fixed and an adjustable cam included in the part 53 for controlling the stop 11. The bellows 14 may be made responsive to ambient temperature by providing gas in the bellows and allowing ambient air to flow through the chamber 44 into the intake manifold. Fuel leaking past the stop 11 is vented through a pipe 10.
