Abstract

1280076 Releasable fastenings AMP Inc 23 March 1970 [11 April 1969] 13988/70 Heading E2A [Also in Division H2] A mounting device for electrical connector assemblies 6, comprises a channel member 4 for receiving the assemblies and a retaining member 44 including a web portion 46 arranged within and attached to the channel member, the retaining member including a row of resilient spaced-apart latching arms 56 extending from one side of the web portion and away from the base of the channel member, each latching arm being adapted to engage releasably a co-operating part 70 (or shoulder as shown) of an electrical assembly when received in the channel member in a direction perpendicular to the base of the channel member, each latching arm being individually disengageable from its respective co-operating part of the respective connector assembly. In the construction shown one side wall 12 of the channel member is higher than the other side wall 10; the side wall 10 has an inwardly directed flange and the side wall 12 an inwardly directed part 16 these being engaged by tabs 58 of the member 44 to locate the member 44 in the channel member. The wall 12 extends outwardly above the part 16 and it terminates in an outwardly directed flange 18. The member 44 has a plurality of spaced apart arms 48 extending in a row from the opposite side of its base 46 from which the latching arms extend there being one arm 48 for each latching arm; each arm 48 has an inwardly directed part 50 which is engageable in a recess 54 in the electrical connector assembly to hold one side of the assembly in place the other side of the assembly being held by the latching arm which has an inwardly directed part 58 which is engageable with the part 70 of the assembly. Each latching arm also has a boss 62 which in use extends into a recess 68 of the assembly to prevent movement of the assembly longitudinally of the channel in conjunction with the arm 48. Slidably mounted on the upper edge portion of the side wall 12 is a locking bar 72 which is provided with a plurality of spaced apart bosses 76 one for each of the latching arms and which when engaged with the latching arms prevent movement of the arms out of the latching positions. The bar can be moved longitudinally to dispose the bosses between the latching arms to enable the arms to be moved. A modification is described in which the latching arms instead of being cranked to provide the part 58 are straight and are provided with an elongated slot; the arm is intended for use with an assembly which instead of having the shoulder 70 for engagement by the latching arm has a projection which can be received in the slot. Means can be provided in either construction for holding the locking bar either in its locking position or its releasing position.
