Abstract

1277547 Container closures FOSTER GRANT CO Inc 10 July 1970 [14 July 1969] 33709/70 Heading B8T A stackable, thermoplastics, closure 10 has a side wall 22 joined by a projecting bead 24 to a substantially planar bottom wall 20, an outwardly extending flange 32 joined to the top of the side wall, a depending skirt 34 secured to the outer edge of said flange and an outwardly facing groove in the skirt, the diameter of the top of the side wall being greater than the bead diameter, the lower end 40 of the skirt lying substantially in the plane of the bottom wall 20, the bottom portion 38 of the skirt being downwardly and outwardly flared and the innermost portion 36 of the groove being spaced from said skirt end 40. The side wall 22 may include a top portion 30 outwardly inclined at an angle a of 35-55 degrees to the closure axis to form a ledge whilst the flared bottom 38 of the skirt may be at an angle b of 30 degrees to the axis. A set of closures are stackable and can easily be coined from the bottom of the stack, the bead 24 and skirt portion 38 of one resting on the ledge 30 and outer edge of the flange 32, respectively, of the next. Horizontal ledge abutments (50), Fig. 5 (not shown), may be provided. The width W of the ledge may be greater than one third the side wall length W+D.
