Abstract

1,270,660. Carbon linings. CARBLOX Ltd. 31 July, 1969 [13 Aug., 1968], No. 38625/68. Heading F4B. A carbon lining member for use in the construction of a metallurgical furnace hearth, comprises a rectangular beam 10 of a length exceeding one and a half times its width having longitudinally extending corrugations formed on a pair of opposite longitudinal sides, the other longitudinal surfaces 12 and 14 and the ends (16, Fig. 1) of the beam being plane. The corrugations are arranged so that the ridges on one side are opposite grooves on the other. Arrangements of furnace hearths constructed of carbon lining members include assembling the beams 10 in staggered relation with beams (26, Fig. 6) of only one corrugation high or arranging the beams in two layers, the beams in the bottom layer extending in a direction perpendicular to that of the beams in the top layer (see Fig. 1, not shown).
