Abstract

1374552 Flexible waveguides ANDREW CORP 7 March 1973 [16 March 1972] 11066/73 Heading H1W A flexible, corrugated waveguide of rectangular or other polygonal cross-section is provided with corrugations on adjacent sides which are longitudinally staggered with respect to one another such that, at the intersection, the crests of the corrugations on one side coincide with the troughs of the corrugations on the other. Thus, in the rectangular guide shown, crests 34 coincide at the corners with troughs 36 and the external corner is in the form of a zig-zag crest. It is stated that the construction provides an internal cross-section with well-defined corners affording superior propagation properties. The guide may be formed by corrugating a plain, rectangular tube. In a modification, the corrugations on the long or short sides, or on both, may be oblique to the cross-sectional planes, e.g. the opposite ends of each corrugation may be displaced by the width of one corrugation such that the end of any one corrugation is in the same transverse plane as the opposite end of the preceding or following corrugation (Figs. 6, 7, not shown).
