Abstract
1,266,310. Fire-proof cable. INDUSTRIE PIRELLI S.p.A. 7 Oct., 1970 [21 Oct., 1969], No. 47663/70. Heading HlA. In a flame-resistant cable having one or more conductors, each surrounded by an insulating layer, and an outer covering sheath, the insulating layer and/or the sheath is/are formed from a composition comprising an elastomeric or plastics material, 6 to 40% magnesium carbonate, at least 20% of chlorine-containing compound and 1 to 15% of antimony trioxide, the percentages being by weight of the composition. Both the insulating layer and the sheath may be formed from the same composition and the elastomeric or plastics material can be, at least in part, the chlorine containing compound e.g. PVC or polychloroprene. One or more chlorinated hydrocarbons e.g. chloroparaffin or diphenyl chloride can be used as the chlorine containing compound in proportions of up to 25% by weight of the composition. When the cable comprises at least two conductors with electrical insulating layers a filling between these layers and the sheath can be used, comprising 30-75% magnesium carbonate, at least 20% of a chlorine-containing compound, and at least 5% of antimony trioxide.
