Abstract
1,264,858. Gun barrels. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 24 April, 1969 [24 April, 1968], No. 21106/69. Heading F3C. A gun barrel comprises a tube 1 of substantially constant wall thickness and having at least two helical rifling grooves 2 and at least two helical strengthening corrugations 5. The barrel is for use with a projectile having over-calibre pins 3 for co-operation with the grooves 2. The grooves and corrugations may be formed as portions projecting radially inwardly of the tube (Figs. 3, 4, not shown). The grooves may be formed in ribs provided on the inner or outer surfaces of the tube (Figs. 7, 8 and Figs. 5, 6 respectively). The barrel may be formed by drawing or extruding a tube to form the grooves and corrugations and, at the same time or subsequently, twisting the tube.
