Abstract

953,962. Revolving chamber firearms. BREVETS AERO-MECHANIQUES S.A. July 11, 1962 [July 21, 1961], No. 26674/62. Heading F3C. A firearm having a rifled barrel 2 comprises a revolving cylinder 1 including a plurality of chambers, each chamber possessing an internally ridged sleeve 6 slidably mounted therein. In the construction shown each sleeve which is applied at its forward end against the barrel under the effect of the powder gases and the motion of the shell 4 is sealed in the cylinder 1 by rings 8. The ridges 7 of the sleeves are formed in alignment with the rifling of the barrel, the rifling having initially zero pitch. A spigot 10 integral with each sleeve co-operates with a groove 11 to prevent rotation of the sleeve. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) the shell 4 is wholly housed within a sleeve, the forward end of the cartridge case 3 being compressed against the inner wall of the sleeve on firing. For firing projectiles of a predetermined size the length of the sleeves may be approximately equal to the distance of the rifling band of the projectile from the front end thereof. Also, in a modification, for a fully loaded cartridge of a predetermined size the front portion of the neck of the case of the cartridge fits in a smooth cylindrical portion provided in a sleeve.
