Abstract
1,259,273. Valves. MASHEDER DESIGN STUDIES Ltd. 7 March, 1969 [7 Dec., 1967], No. 55724/67. Heading F2V. In a rotary disc valve, the valve body 1 carries two frusto-conical seating surfaces and the disc member 5 is shaped to have two complementary frusto-conical sealing surfaces, the angle of inclination of the complementary seat and sealing surfaces relative to the valve body axis being such that its tangent is not less than the numerical value of the coefficient of friction between the two surfaces. Instead of being of a form suitable for sandwiching between flanged pipes 2, 3, the valve body 1 may be constructed with pipe-connecting spigots and with access openings through which the disc member may be withdrawn or inserted (Figs. 2, 4, 5, 6, not shown). Additionally, the valve disc may be made of two separate portions which are biased away from each other and towards the respective seats by springs disposed between the portions (Fig. 3, not shown).
