Abstract

1,258,102. Slag forming agent. NIPPON STEEL CORP. March 28, 1969 [March 30, 1968], No.16285/69. Heading C7M. A slag-forming agent for use in steel-making comprises lumps of a mixture of CaO, 29-60 wt. per cent, FeO or Fe 2 O 3 , 25-60%, and SiO 2 , 6-30%, said lumps being formed by partially melting particles of said ingredients at 1000-1700‹C. to produce a glassy material covering the boundaries of said particles and bonding them to one another. The agent may also contain less than 25% (aggregate) of Al 2 O 3 , CaF 2 , TiO 2 , MgO, MnO, or alkali metal oxide, e.g. Na 2 O or K 2 O.
