Abstract

[Also in Division G1] In an arrangement for developing alarms according to the position of an indicating or recording stylus of a measuring device by vanes carried by the stylus interrupting either of the paths of two light source/photo-cell arrangements located in the plane of stylus movement when the stylus is deflected beyond predetermined limits, the alarm signals developed are different for the two positions and an additional differing signal is developed when the measuring device and alarm generating apparatus are functioning correctly. The apparatus is described in respect of a flame type methane detector and atone generator is included its output being continuous for a methane excess, and interrupted respectively at two different rates to indicate methane tester flame failure, or satisfactory operation of the equipment. The last named signal is a periodic burst of tone at every 12 seconds and is controlled by a timer circuit which renders the photo-cells which are photo-transistors non-conductive for the period. The tone generator output is keyed by a multivibrator when the light path of the lower limit detector is interrupted. Manual reset keys, and strapping points for fault simulation are also provided.
