Abstract

1,254,609. Locks. PRESTO LOCK CO. Ltd. 6 Nov., 1969 [17 Feb., 1969], No. 54474/69. Heading E2A. In a combination lock for luggage cases, the dials H are each associated with a sleeve I having a rim 22 with a flat portion 24, these rims pressing down on a plate F lying on the bolt G so that the dials can only be rotated when the bolt is in the fastening position in which a projection 30 slides leftwardly over a rib 30, Fig. 5, to fall into a recess 32, Fig. 4. The bolt is pressed upwardly by a spring J into contact with the sleeve rims. The bolt can only be moved from the fastening position. Fig. 4, when it is allowed to rise by the flats 24 so as to clear the rib 80 and ride over it, Fig. 5. Because of this arrangement, the sleeves cannot be turned inadvertently to a lost combination. To set the combination, the lock must be released to reveal a lever 46 which slides the sleeves axially on shaft D against spring L to disengage their keyways from the dials, Fig. 12. The bolt is manually operable by a slider M, 96, and spring-loaded ball 84 and ramp 94 acts as a detent.
