Abstract

898,228. Latches; key locks. AUTO UNION G.m.b.H. Sept. 19, 1958 [March 18, 1958], No. 30111/58. Class 44. A lock assembly for the lid 20 of the rear compartment of a motor vehicle includes a handle secured to the lid, a push button assembly mounted on the handle and having a key actuable barrel 2 extending inwardly of the lid, an elbow lever 6 pivotally mounted on the push button assembly, a latch member 14 pivotally mounted on a plate 13 secured to the lid, the latch member being adapted to engage a keeper plate 16 which is mounted on a rain gutter 18 of the compartment, and a drawbar 11 pivotally connecting the elbow lever 6 and the latch member 14, the arrangement being such that the barrel 2 is adapted to be turned by the key to either of two positions in one of which it is capable of engaging the elbow lever 6 for moving the latch member 14 out of engagement with the keeper plate 16 and in the other is incapable of such engagement. When the barrel 2 is in the latter position a slot 4 therein is in line with an end 5 of the elbow lever 6. The latch member 14 is spring-urged to its engaging position. Resilient packing may be provided in the rain gutter 18.
