[Also in Division F2] In an anchor chain arrester in which a lever 5 supporting a chain engaging stop is rotationally fixed to a hollow shaft 4, the latter is rotatable through a screw 8, 9 and a single acting hydraulic piston 15 and cylinder 16 arrangement to release the chain once a dog clutch 12, 21 has been released hydraulically. The shaft 4 has a rod 14 slidably extending therethrough and supporting the piston 15 movable in the cylinder 16 against a return spring 23. Locked to opposite ends of the rod 14 are the movable part 12 of the clutch and the screw 9, the latter being non-rotatably slidable in a casing part 11 and screw threadably engaging a nut 8 which is non-rotatably slidable in the hollow shaft 4. In operation, fluid is fed to the cylinder 16 through a passage 19, 20 in the rod 14, and the piston 15 and rod move to the right (in Fig. 3) to disengage the clutch 12, 21 to allow rotation of the shaft 4. During this movement, the nut 8 moves into engagement with a shoulder 22 on the shaft 4 and further movement of the shaft and screw 9, to the right causes rotation of the nut 8 and hence the shaft 4, lever 5 and stop to release the chain. A handle and screw 26, 25 is provided for manual displacement of the rod 14. The chain engaging stop is pivotally mounted on the lever 5 and is oriented with respect thereto by a torsion spring.
