Abstract

1,249,319. Feeding and delivering sheets. WINDMOLLER & HOLSCHER. 28 Nov., 1968 [29 Nov., 1967], No. 56485/68. Heading B8R. Sheets S are turned through 90 degrees in their own plane as they are advanced between endless conveyer chains 5, 51 and 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, by a plurality of turning devices comprising upper and lower pivotable members 1 and 2 between which the sheets are gripped. Each of the members 1 and 2 comprises a pivotable shaft 28, 41 and a sheet-gripping element 49, 50. The element 50 is lowered on shaft 28 into a sheet-gripping position as cam follower roller 25 moves down cam surface 33. Shaft 41 is pivoted about its longitudinal axis to turn the sheet (and member 1) by cam 43 engaging cam track 44, Fig. 2. The sheets may be fed to the turning devices by conveyer 51 and aligned by stops 54, 55 on chains 52, 53. The turned sheets may be delivered on chain 70 and re-aligned by stops on chains 71, 72. In a further embodiment, two diverging sets of co-operating chains 5, 5<SP>1</SP>, 6, 61 may be provided for alternately gripping advancing sheets about their corners and turning them through 90 degrees in opposite directions.
