[Also in Division E1] A wire mat comprises interconnected longitudinal and transverse rods in which the number of longitudinal rods at the ends is less than the number in the middle. The arrangement allows mats to be overlapped without a local accumulation of longitudinal rods. Rods 3 may be reinforced in their central region by adjacent rods 2, or intermediate rods. Alternatively rods may extend from either end to a few inches short of the other end.
