Abstract

1,244,694. Container closure. JOHNSEN & JORGENSEN (PLASTICS) Ltd. 4 June, 1970 [4 June, 1969], No. 28286/69. Heading B8T. In a container and closure cap 12 therefor, the container has at least one circumferential projection (42), Fig. 2 (not shown), adjacent its open end, the weakened line of junction between cap and tear band 18 coinciding in part with the apex of the said projection, the cap having a skirt 16 with a plurality of depending ear portions 71 positioned to overlap the projection and thereby retain the cap on the container when the tear band is removed. The skirt bottom may be tapered at 46 at the junction with the tamper-proof band 18, the band being defined by a top score line 20, which is castellated to leave the downwardly depending ears 71 on the skirt when the band is removed, and a bottom score line 26 extending firstly parallel to the major part of the first line and then angling off to the bottom of the band, the circumferential groove 44 at the junction of the skirt bottom and band being located on a projecting flange (42), Fig. 2 (not shown), on the container (30). Ears (271), Fig. 13 (not shown), having inwardly projecting lips (277) may be pre-formed on the skirt and separated from the band (218) by slits, the top score line (259) being interrupted by the slits. The cap may have a rib 50 which seals against the side of the container or is engaged in a groove (363), Fig. 14 (not shown), or abuts a container rib (463), Fig. 15 (not shown), and may be dished so as to form an anti-capillary seal with the container rim, Fig. 6 and Fig. 7 (not shown). The container wall may be thickened, and may have a further flange (241), Fig. 10 (not shown), to locate the tear band which may have a tab 22.
