Abstract

1,243,371. Cooling reactors. ATOMIC POWER CONSTRUCTIONS Ltd. 2 Dec., 1968 [30 Nov., 1967], No. 54668/67. Heading G6C. In an integral, gas cooled, graphite moderated nuclear reactor, secondary heat. exchangers are used to facilitate reactor cooling during shut down. The core 3 and heat exchangers 5, 9 are enclosed in the concrete pressure vessel 1. The exchangers, mounted between the pressure bell 4 and the steel lining 2 are coupled to the gas circulators 6. During shut-down, water flow is established in the secondary heat exchangers 9 and steam flows through reservoir 19 into condenser 18. The valves 11 and 14 are closed, thus interrupting the steam flow to the turbines 16, 17 from the exchanger 5.
